Catch Up

Lots of sketches for this post so I am pretty pleased with myself =)

I have tried several times to draw this JE idol but I have never succeeded in capturing his likeness. It drives me to the point of frustration sometimes and I still have 2 unfinished (I suspect they will stay unfinished) portrait drawings of him stashed somewhere in my room. Who is this J-pop artist? None other than Yamipi of course! A few weeks ago I decided to give it another try by drawing a much simpler sketch this time. Well whaddaya know... I failed again! But here it is anyway:

Yamapi with love~ Referenced from a magazine scan

I've also got a few new items to play with =)

Got a new jacket from my sis - I'm loving it!

The gifts I got for my birthday

Some more sketches I did over the past week:
WIP - Squall in his SeeD uniform

Saw a half moon when I was walking to uni on night and it had this small streak of cloud in the shadow, I thought it looked like a jellyfish so I tried drawing it... Now that I look at the finished sketch, it looks more like the half the moon exploded and is plummeting towards earth. FAIL

Last but not least, a sketch of my office desk... Does it look depressing or maybe a bit haunted? Yes it does, I am a depressed PhD student and I am haunting the desk day and afternoon ... sometimes at night too =)

My sister's Wedding

Okay, so I lied about updating the blog during the weekend =( The sketches I did last week were not nice enough to show. On another note...

I am so proud to be designing my sister's wedding card =D

Still working on some changes here and there but the main picture is done~

Congratulations to Karen and Jimmy!

Easter Break

It's been quite a while since my last update! I have to tell myself to keep doing sketches otherwise this year is going to end up as unprodcutive (in terms of drawings) as last year! Things don't seem to be too bad though. I already have ideas for new projects and now it is just finding the time to put them on paper!

The 5 day weekend for Easter was much appreciated but was very very unproductive *wail*. I didn't manage to start some of the said art projects which is a bummer but! I went on a trip to Philip Island with my sis and her friends on Friday and they managed to catch quite a few fish and a few crabs. Fresh sashimi on the beach and korean seafood soup for dinner... NICE! Some sketches from the trip before I ran out of pencil lead (-_-) :

Jiman koko untangling the fishing line

Here are some sketches from my sketch book:

FFvsXIII Noctis - Can't wait til the game is out!

FFVII ACC Cloud - This sketch is kinda half arsed but I like the way it turned out

Okay, my goal now is to get some paintings done and post them up by next weekend. As if! I'll make it more realistic and say in a month, but I hope I'll have some more sketches to post by next weekend.

P.S. One of the things I've been meaning to do is to be able to play a whole song on the piano (properly). Been trying to play River Flows in You by Yirma on the piano.

What a tough piece to start learning piano with *goes to the corner to cry* What an idiot I am for doing this to myself! Progress 5%

Wushu

It's O-week and the univeristy clubs are setting up booths and tents in the campus centre to lure unsuspecting newbies to join their cult/organisation/society. I happen to be a proud promoter of the wushu club! It's a chinese martial art that does not focus much on sparring (which is good for me) but focuses instead on self-development and we get to learn to use different weapons and routines. I've been training since my first year in Australia and I still love every minute of it. It's mostly thanks to great people in the club and we have an awesome instructor! Muahahahahaha! The people at the club happen to be very photogenic too. Which means I have plenty of photos to use as references for sketching =D Here are some of the ones I have drawn.

Steph striking a pose for a performance we did last year at manifest; we had to dress up as japanese high school kids!

Scott in a 2-man performance at Crown, throwing quite a punch!

Billy breathing a sigh of relief after a broadsword performance at Crown

Tony using the 9-section whip *Bounce Bounce Bounce*

Mike performing his long fist routine

Last but not least, Happy belated birthday Scotty!!

Almost settled

Initially my plan was to move into the new place on Monday cause it'll be easier for me to attend wushu trainings. Last Sunday night, I found myself alone with nothing to do and my mind was just nagging me about all the unpacking and cleaning that needed to be done at the new place. With enough time to catch the last bus, I packed the little things I had left at my sister's and rushed out. Staying over the first night was a little weird as I always had trouble sleeping in an unfamiliar place for the first time but no problems with my cosy room now!

The place is looking real sweet at the moment. Me and my housie just got a coffee table this morning so no photos of that yet but here are the photos that I have so far:

Spacious living room with lots of bean bags

Dining and kitchen area

Shower and toilet

Has no locks! Hence the signs =)

The laundry room is really spacious too

My cosy room (only missing a study chair)

Thanks for the bookshelf sis, it's serving me well!

Set of drawers from sis with fresh coats of paint and new handles from Bunnings

A lot of the furniture (like the TV, sofa bed etc) belonged to Jay. He also got the dining table and stuff in the kitchen all sorted out before I moved in so thanks so much for that =) Can't wait to have everything properly settled (like the internet RAWR!!). Also looking forward to living with my new housemates, please take care of me in the future!

On a side note:
Soap's back!!! xD Hurrah! Thankies so much for the gifts from Japan.

I also need to wish our chipmunk leader a happy belated birthday =) Hope you are doing well back in KL!

Opening a new chapter

Since the start of the new year, all I have been waiting for was getting the documents required to apply for the PR visa. The last document arrived in the mail on Monday and I got right to scanning documents, filling out forms etc. It happened to be a freakin' hot day! Here are a series of brief sketches to explain what happened the next morning:

Eventually, I got all the required copies certified, scanned and uploaded on Wednesday. Thank goodness it's all done and over with! Now I'll just have to wait a few months to receive my verdict =P

The next thing I have to settle is... moving into my new house!

The place looks great and since it's unfurnished, I can make it look however I want it to! Muahahahahaha! My housemate said he'll put me in charge of the interior decor for the living room while he handles the kitchen area. *rubs hands with crazy scientist grin on my face* I'm so looking forward to this! =D

Since I haven't been posting lately... here are some sketches I scanned from my sketch book:

Just some random stuff I drew while I was waiting for a friend at Melbourne Central

NCIS Season 4: Abby dressed up as Marylin Monroe on Halloween's

Much to Tony and McGee's surprise!

I may post up some pictures of the new place in the next post. So keep an eye out for it! Until then~

Not so Epic

First off, happy 2010!

Been really busy getting things settled recently; moving out, looking for a new place to rent, applying for postgraduate studies and the lot. Also, I didn't want to make a post till I got some sketches done and today is the day. I actually drew the sketches on the new years but haven't had time to scan or edit it until this afternoon.

The Melbournians watching the midnight fireworks

Meanwhile...

Psst... pardon the simple sketches and the poor editting!

A day trip to Lorne on Christmas

It's been a great month and I enjoyed every bit of it! Thanks to my sis and Jiman koko for organising the trips and driving us around. To enjoy it with mum and Ed was great. See Pa, you have to come next time! Don't worry Jan, we'll take you around when you come down to Melbourne too! Hopefully that time I will be the one driving =D

WIP: Peacock

For once, my drawing looks better on camera than in real life. This drawing is a request made by my aunt about a year ago and I only got the inspiration to do it recently. Found some really nice reference photos from Deviantart and decided to take a different approach to the drawing by using a black card as the base. The colours stand out so much more than usual and I hope it will give a good result in the end. I'm also using silver and gold pencils for highlighting the feathers. Too bad I couldn't find metallic blue pencils! The drawing would look so awesome. I have about a week to finish this and it's gonna be one hell of a week!

Work in progress!!

NCIS

One of the coolest, most addictive TV series I have watched so far. And I thought CSI was good... I don't know why I found this series so appealing. I love that the characters are of different ages, have very different and unique personalities but still get along well (or try to) with each other. Love the Gibbs back head slap =D Just last week I watched the episodes where Kate was killed. It was supposed to be tear jerking, but they managed to add hints of humour without destroying the atmosphere.

The one and only Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played by Mark Harmon!

The rest of his team and his KafPow-drinking, goth forensic scientist

I haven't found nice reference pictures for Ducky, Jimmy, Kate and the directors yet so I guess there'll be another post dedicated for them.

P.S. Congratulations to everyone who did well for their exams and those who will be graduating end of this year! A special congrats to my best friend who did her very best and will be graduating soon in Malaysia. Proud of you girl! ;)

First sketch

Ever since I watched Pixar's 'UP' I've been wanting to draw the dog.

"Squirrel!"
"Point!"
"I was hiding under your porch because I love you"

=3

Also, it's my mum's birthday!! *HUG* And she'll be coming to Aussie with my bro in less than 2 weeks. Yays!
